SAFETY SCIENCE STRATEGY
SAFETY SCIENCE STRATEGY
WHAT:
The Safety Science Strategy relies on the power of relationships to bring about systemic change to end traffic violence. We believe in the power of community and are asking Safe Streets advocates to lean into a conversation focused on our new short film, Safety Science, a collaboration between Families for Safe Streets and award-winning transportation safety reporter Jessie Singer.
The Safe Streets House Party initiative supports and guides members just like you in hosting a screening of the Safety Science video and facilitating a conversation among friends, neighbors, or colleagues.
WHY:
Although many people consider fatal and severe injury traffic crashes inevitable, the fact is that proven solutions exist.
Traffic violence is preventable when we shift from blaming individuals to designing comprehensive, preventive systems.
Holding a conversation at the community level ensures familiarity, trust, and open communication, which is essential to building new perspectives and understanding.
HOW:
If you’ve ever hosted a birthday party or potluck, you’ve got what it takes to build a movement from your living room. Consult our event planning toolkit at your own pace and remember:
The FSS National Team is here to guide & support you.
SAFE SPEEDS SAVE LIVES
SAFE SPEEDS SAVE LIVES
This year's theme is: Safe Speeds Save Lives.
There is a rising epidemic on our roadways that is costing the American people undue stress, grief and loss—speeding. This preventable behavior now contributes to nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities across the United States according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
Families for Safe Streets fights to build support for state bills requiring anti-speeding technology called intelligent speed assistance (ISA) in the vehicles of the most reckless drivers who flout the law and continue to be a danger on our roadways.
There is proven technology to prevent reckless drivers from causing tragedies like the one devastating families in communities across the country.
Intelligent speed assistance is a device installed in vehicles that regulates vehicle speed based on predefined restrictions, ensuring compliance with legal limits.
If you’re in the United States and want to organize an event in your community to push for a Stop Super Speeders bill in your state, you can sign up below.
