WHY WE REMEMBER
WHY WE REMEMBER
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a global event held every third Sunday of November to honor those who have lost their lives or been impacted by roadway crashes. This year on November 16th, communities across the globe, including several dozen in the United States, will gather together to demand actions towards improving roadway safety and to uplift proven strategies, including redesigning dangerous roads, reducing speed limits, and improving vehicle design.
This day also serves as a crucial opportunity for governments and those working in road safety to demonstrate the scale and impact of road-related deaths and injuries and advocate for immediate and concerted action to end this public health crisis.
SAFE SPEEDS SAVE LIVES
SAFE SPEEDS SAVE LIVES
This year's theme is: Safe Speeds Save Lives.
There is a rising epidemic on our roadways that is costing the American people undue stress, grief and loss—speeding. This preventable behavior now contributes to nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities across the United States according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
Families for Safe Streets fights to build support for state bills requiring anti-speeding technology called intelligent speed assistance (ISA) in the vehicles of the most reckless drivers who flout the law and continue to be a danger on our roadways.
There is proven technology to prevent reckless drivers from causing tragedies like the one devastating families in communities across the country.
Intelligent speed assistance is a device installed in vehicles that regulates vehicle speed based on predefined restrictions, ensuring compliance with legal limits.
